Documentary Film “A Different Childhood”

The film is about the monitoring conducted by the Office of Public Defender of Georgia in children’s homes. Experts and psychologists were able to conduct the detailed analysis of the situation in the children’s homes thanks to the financial assistance from the European Union. 1.4 million Euros will be spent on strengthening the Office of Public Defenders and correspondingly that amount will be used for protection of rights of children, prisoners, persons with mental conditions and handicapped individuals.

The monitoring results prepared by the Office of Public Defender include many violations: inadequate environment for children, incomplete medical services provided to them, one and the same type of food, lack of professionalism among the employees of children’s homes.

Public Defender demands that urgent steps be taken in order to remedy the conditions that are tantamount to inhuman treatment. Set of recommendations comprised of 27 paragraphs have already been sent to corresponding ministries.

Under this project European Union is also working on raising public awareness on rule of law and human rights issues together with the Office of Public Defender.
