EU initiative “Covenant of Mayors”

EU initiative “Covenant of Mayors” embraces up to 1200 cities in the world. April 12, Tbilisi was also joined this covenant.
Michael Nekvasil talked about the purpose of the agreement and those obligations, which the cities have to sign.
He said, that “Covenant of Mayors” aims reacting challenges existed as a result of climate changes and supporting to the development of sustainable energy policy.
Cities supporting this initiative undertake commitment to do their bit in overcoming global climate changes and at the level of the cities reduce the amount of harmful products step by step and also support to the development of alternative sources of energy.
According to the covenant, participant cities have to reduce the amount of harmful products (CO2) by 20% by 2020 year. Zviad Archvadze, explained how the leaders of Tbilisi are planning to meet their engagements.
Nino Ckhobadze, as the representative of non-governmental sector talked about the role of non-governmental organizations in fighting against climate changes and reducing 20% of emissions.
Michael Nekvasil also spoke, how in the European cities which have joined this covenant are trying to meet their engagements.
