Documentary Film “Punishment Under 18″

Published by on 24.01.2010

This film is about juvenile offenders. It depicts the life of young offenders  in prison, as well as the difficult life of street children.  Many of them end up in jail. The main character featured in the film – 16 year old Nika–  was released from prison in 2009.  He doesn’t know what direction his life will take. Prevention, rehabilitation and/or re-integration programs for juvenile offenders have not been available so far  in Georgia.

In order to tackle that problem the European Union launched a project directed at supporting the reintegration in society of  juvenile offenders. The project aims at substituting prison terms for juvenile offenders with alternative measures, including re-integration programmes and  psychological rehabilitation. The film describes how that project is being conducted.
