Broadcasted by Rustavi 2 on 17.01.2010

991 IDPs live in the village of Prezeti situated in Mtskheta district. They are the people who were forced to leave their homes as a result of the August War between Russia and Georgia in 2008. 300 families from Akhalgori district and Didi Liakhvi area were relocated here 4 months after the war.

In October 2008 the European Union allocated 500 million dollars to Georgia for overcoming the consequences of the war. 62 million out of that sum is used for helping the people that were directly affected by the war.

Some part of the abovementioned sum was used for building the whole villages. Besides, special programs were prepared for developing infrastructure in the new settlements.

Together with other international organizations EU allocated certain amounts that were used for building up to 4,000 houses. Together with houses 22 thousand IDPs received beds, wardrobes, fridges and other necessary household items. At the end of each month humanitarian aid is distributed in all the new settlements. However, it’s not enough of course. EU has elaborated a new program that should make the IDPs lives easier. The social-economic program aims at provision of employment, education and public health services to them.
